The Farm

Welcome to Rushford Mill Farm

Rushford Mill Farm lies on the North-East edge of Dartmoor and has been owned by our family for over 150 years. It is a mixed livestock farm with a flock of laying hens. Organic free range eggs and organic hay and haylage can be purchased from the premises.

History

The manor of Rushford can be dated back to the 1100’s when it belonged to a family called de Risford. The manor switched hands regularly until 1856 when the whole estate of Rushford was bought by the then rector of Chagford, George Hayter-Hames, this included Rushford Barton, Rushford Mill, and Rushford Wood. Originally, as the name implies, the farm was an arable farm with an original manorial corn mill and it is thought that the stepping-stones, which spanned the river Teign were at one time the main crossing point from the manor to Chagford. In recent years Rushford Mill Farm has gradually become a mainly grassland farm and in 2009 finished the conversion to Organic status.
